PRESENTATION OF REGIONAL ECONOMIC POTENTIAL OF GURIA

H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia together with his fellow members of the Cabinet of Ministers attended a meeting with businesses held in Ozurgeti on May 17, 2015. H.E. Irakli Gharibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia presented a new Government Program Initiative titled as Strong Region for Strong Georgia at the meeting and spoke about regional economic potential of Guria.
“Guria has good resources for developing poultry and rabbit farms, dairy and meat processing plants, fruit and vegetable processing enterprises, bee-keeping, harvesting and processing of hazelnuts, walnuts and chestnuts, fishing, production of grain and vegetable cultures, production and processing of tea, citrus and berries – including the blueberry. Region has a solid basis for the development of cool storage facilities and nurseries. Developments in this regard are particularly important by taking into account that our government signed the Association Agreement with EU and thus gained access to a market of 900 million consumers. This is a very realistic prospect to be benefited by our entrepreneurs and businessmen” noted Prime Minister of Georgia.
Head of Government focused his attention to the potential of developing tourism in Guria and noted that the region has an impressive potential in this regard.
“Recreation sites on the Black Sea coastline – Ureki, Shekvetili and Grigoleti and those in highlands of Alpine zone – Bakhmaro and Gomis Mta are indeed unique resources and it is possible to develop both summer and winter tourism destinations. You may well know about the magnetic sand with healing qualities, thus being the richest natural resource of Ureki. You may also agree that this is a huge prospect for this recreation site. I wish to say a few words about Gomis Mta, as the unique resource of this site is still untapped. It is located at 2250 meters above the sea level. It offers sea and mountain air, along with mineral spa waters to interested tourists. Its unrivalled nature and Chinchao Lake leave unforgettable memories and impressions on visitors. Gomis Mta gets plenty of snow in winter and has an ideal relief for the development of winter ski sports facilities. Our aim is to solicit interest of potential investors. It is important to attract FDI to Gomis Mta for turning it into a winter sports resort” stated Prime Minister of Georgia and expressed his hopes that together with Ureki it will be the most interesting location for domestic and foreign tourists.
Prime Minister called the businessmen for implementing interesting projects in the region and noted that they can be assured in full support of the national government and local authorities.
H.E. Irakli Gharibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia also shared information to businessmen on projects currently implemented in the region of Guria.
