MINISTER OF FINANCE MEETS AIIB SECRETARY GENERAL



H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia met with Mr. Jin Liqun, Secretary General of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on August 23, 2015. Visiting official has arrived to Georgia for the 6th Round of Chief Negotiators' Meeting of the AIIB.

Discussions at the meeting were related to the cooperation with AIIB, to make sure that Georgia is among the countries to host significant investment projects not only for the country concerned, but for the region at large.

Minister of Finance briefed the Secretary General on the economic position of the Caucasus and Georgia, current business environment and investment opportunities of the country. Minister expressed readines to actively get engaged in the operation of the AIIB.

"It is important that such keynote meeting right after the launch of the AIIB is held in Tbilisi. Bilateral and multilateral meetings were held today. AIIB will start its active operation in the nearest future and I am sure that today's meetings will have tangible outcome and output. As for the bilateral interaction, opportunities offered by Georgia are important for the Chinese Government inter alia for the implementation of the Silk Route project. As commonly known, it is one of the initiatives of the President of China to create a Common Road - Common Belt, within which significant opportunities will arise for Georgia and its partner and neighbouring states. Hence, prospects of cooperation between our countries are very promising" noted Minister of Finance of Georgia.

"We are delighted to visit Georgia for the 6th Round of Chief Negotiators' Meeting of the AIIB. It is a very important meeting in the history of the Bank. China as an initiating country does its best to make sure that AIIB starts its operation as soon as possible. China and Georgia have very smooth relationship. I hope China will indeed contribute to the socio-economic development of Georgia through the AIIB with its support and assistance" noted the Secretary General of the AIIB.

Presentations have been made today at the Ministry of Finance to brief the Secretary General of the AIIB on various investment projects, outlook and prospects, donor support and assistance.
