A wrap-up meeting was held in Tbilisi Georgia, at the Ministry of Finance about fiscal governance issues and EU best practice. Besides civil society organizations, representatives of State Audit Office and EU were attended.

During the meeting Deputy Minister Giorgi Kakauridze talked about the basic principles and importance of fiscal governance as well as about the role of municipalities and civil society organizations during the fiscal policy management process, and about the role of public participation and increasing public awareness in this process.

Head of Budget Department Ekaterine Guntsadze made a brief overview of series of public discussions held in the regions with the representatives of municipalities and CSOs. She talked about the main principles of fiscal governance, as well as the fiscal policy of EU and also fiscal governance of Georgia and its compatibility with EU best practice. She focused on such important issues as main fiscal rules, independent fiscal institutions (fiscal councils), medium-term planning etc. She also discussed new regulations enacted since 2017 and the importance of these regulations. At the end she discussed the main directions have been implemented so far under the public finance reform and next steps which should be implemented in the medium term period.

At the end of the meeting MOF representatives summed up the public finance reform has been implemented so far as well as the medium-term activities to be implemented.

Ministry of Finance of Georgia organized series of public discussions with the representatives of municipalities and CSOs in Batumi, Kutaisi, Borjomi and Rustavi. Ministry of Finance hopes that CSOs will be more active in the future and their interest and participation in fiscal governance issues will be increased.
