French Development Agency will allocate EUR 35 million to support reforms planned by the government of Georgia in order to improve the social welfare system



On 9th November, 2018 the Agreement between Georgia and the French Development Agency
(AFD) has been signed on the allocation of EUR 35 million to support reforms planned by the government of Georgia in order to improve the social welfare system.

The Agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance of Georgia Ivane Machavariani, French Ambassador to Georgia Pascal Menie and Director of the Demographic and Social Department of the French Development Agency Marie-Pierre Nicollet.
The financial resources are allocated for the purpose of supporting the reforms planned by the
Government of Georgia on social welfare.

The Social Welfare Program supported by AFD includes the following directions:

•Development  of  social support and solidarity  system,  including  adequate  service to persons with disabilities;
•Provision of an affordable and high quality health care system;
•Optimization  of  resources  allocated  for  internally  displaced  persons,  which  implies closing at least 20 damaged buildings and settle at least 350 families in a proper residence.

AFD supported social welfare program in Georgia will last three years. During this period, the financial resources allocated for Georgia will total up to EUR 105 million. These are budget support funds and are directed to the state budget.
