REPORTING ON RESPONSE MEASURES TO NATURAL DESASTER OF JUNE 13-14, 2015

H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia attended the presentation of the Performance Report of Tbilisi Municipality at ExpoGeorgia on June 10, 2016. Response Measures to the Natural Disaster of Tbilisi of June 13-14, 2015 have been presented.

Minister of Finance once again expressed his condolences to the family members of the victims of the tragedy in the capital city of the country. He noted that everything should be made to prevent such calamities in future.

As stated by the Minister of Finance, special accounts in national and foreign currencies were opened in the Treasury of the MOF to finance the response measures and support the affected population.
“Authorities, public, businesses and international partners of Georgia demonstrated an unprecedented unity to address the natural disaster of the last year. First time ever, funds were mobilized in the State Budget. 90 million have been collected and allocated to the local budget of Tbilisi Municipality. Hence, response measures to the natural disaster have been funded. Apart from the funds allocated by the national authorities, resources were sourced by the Regional Development and Reserve Funds. Donations were also mobilized from the private sector to make the spending most transparent” noted the Minister of Finance of Georgia.

MOF also took into account the hardship of the taxpayers failing on the filing and tax payments. Namely, sanctions were waived for late filing of tax returns and payments to the budget.

MOF was also engaged in the liaison with donor agencies and diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia to make sure that financial, expertise and technical support was received on time.
