The Minister of Finance of Georgia, Ivane Matchavariani, held an introductory meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia, Faig Guliyev.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili, Head of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance Levan Kakava, and Head of the Customs Department Mamuka Jangulashvili.

The parties discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

As the Minister of Finance noted, the Republic of Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Georgia, with which, together with an exemplary friendship, it shares common economic and geopolitical interests.

The importance of partnership in trade, economic, transit and transport was underlined at the meeting.

Particular attention was paid to the project of construction of a new joint customs checkpoint, which will significantly speed up and simplify border crossing procedures, strengthen transport connections and trade positions between the two countries.

As mentioned, the two partner agencies have the opportunity to further expand the area of information exchange between the parties, increase the efficiency of customs procedures and more.

The conversation also touched on the issues of coordination between the customs administrations in the conditions of the pandemic, which ensured the uninterrupted delivery of goods not only between the two countries but also in the region as a whole.

The parties expressed hope that both countries will be able to successfully reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and restore the economy.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Finance wished the Ambassador of Azerbaijan success in his activities and expressed readiness for cooperation.
