H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia is visiting Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia within the scope of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Addis Ababa in the period of July 13-16, 2015.
Conference is aimed at raising more financial resources for the development financing by the international community through cooperation of public and civil sectors, along with financial circles. Ultimate goal of the keynote event is to ensure the acute poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth.
Plan of actions will be developed for the next 15 years at the Plenary Meeting for Global Development. It will be enforced after the completion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
Heads of states, Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs are participating in the conference, along with NGO and business sector representatives.
Conference is attended by Mr. Ban Ki-moon, General Secretary of UN; Mr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank; Min Zhu, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF; Mr. Jack Lew, US Secretary of Treasury; Mr. Lou Jiwei, Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China and other high ranking officials.
Conference participants are discussing issues to create a common financial strategy to achieve a sustainable development through the improved internal public resources of countries, financial resources of local and international private sectors, donor support, stimulation of international trade as one of the driving forces of development, along with the introduction of advanced technologies and innovative projects, which should also incentivize the economic growth and create new jobs. Attention will also be paid to foreign debt and its acceptable volumes.
Organized by UN, International Conference on Financing for Development was held twice – in 2002 and 2008. At previous occasions they were dedicated to Economic Problems of Global Development and Impact of the Global Financial Crisis.
Decisions made this year will serve as a basis for the Sustainable Development Agenda of 2015, which is planned to be endorsed by UN Assembly at the Summit to be held in New York on September 25-27, 2015.
