H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia and H.H. Nino Gvenetadze, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia discussed issues related to the simplification of procedures for tax and administrative dispute resolution within the court system, along with financial support of the independent judiciary within the third phase of the Judiciary Reform Agenda. Meeting was held at the Supreme Court of Georgia.
As noted by Her Honor, it is essential to address the issue of financial support of the court system for strengthening the independence and stability of the judiciary, for the high quality and timely resolution of cases. Efforts cover both an increase of the number of judges, improvement of infrastructure and post-service remuneration (pensions) of judges.
His Excellency noted the high importance of the reform agenda and significance of the financially independent and strong court system. At the same time, Minister of Finance spoke about the need to simplify the dispute resolution procedures within the MOF, along with tax and administration dispute resolution procedures within the court system. This concern has been inter alia raised by businesses.
As agreed during the meeting, active communication and cooperation will be further pursued between the Supreme Court and Ministry of Finance, so that Judiciary Reform is supported with adequate financial resources, while the tax dispute resolution procedures get more flexible and simplified both at the MOF and Judiciary.
