H.E. Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Finance of Georgia and H.E. Janos Herman, EU Ambassador to Georgia visited Economic Clearance Zone of Poti subordinated to the Customs Department of the Georgian Revenue Service (GRS) of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on July 27, 2015.
Minister of Finance shared information with EU Ambassador on the specific nature of operation of the Container Control Unit, Economic Clearance Zone of Poti at large and applicable procedures. Container Control Unit has been operating within the Economic Clearance Zone of Poti since 2012 and EU is among the donors supporting its operation.
It is worth noting that operation of the Container Control Unit has become possible through a joint program of United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and World Customs Organization aimed at container control systems.
Container shipments are controlled by Customs Officers of the GRS, Officers of the Central Criminal Police of the Ministry of Interior and Patrolling Police Department.
Similar Container Control Unit established within the program operates also at the Economic Clearance Zone of Tbilisi.
