Minister of Finance Ivane Matchavariani held meeting with the (MCC) Resident Country Director for Georgia



On August 13, 2018, Minister of Finance Ivane Matchavariani held meeting with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Resident Country Director for Georgia, Jener Edelman and the CEO of Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia, Magda Magradze.

At the meeting the sides reviewed the successful activities of MCC in Georgia and talked about future cooperation prospects.

Ivane Matchavariani thanked the director of the MCC Georgia Representation for the support that the US Government, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), provides to Georgia in the field of education and noted that the education sector and its improvement is apriority for the Government. The Minister of Finance informed the guests on the reforms the government plans to implement in the education sector.

In its turn, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Resident Country Director for Georgia

wished success to the Minister of Finance and expressed hope that the partnership with Georgian will actively continue for the mutual benefit.

The sides positively assessed the fact that the Ministry of Finance within the support of educational programs of Millennium Challenge Fund, signed memorandum, according to which, Georgian students, in three higher educational institutions of Georgia are studying with programs of one of the most successful state University - San Diego State University, so that they have the opportunity to practice and do internship at Ministry of Finance.

The mission of the “Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia” is to implement a system of education based on labor market demands. Its projects in the sectors of general, vocational and higher education sectors are implemented through a $ 140 million grant allocated to Georgia by the US Government Millennium Challenge Corporation.

The second compact, allocated for 2014-2019, is the largest investment in the country's education sector aimed at developing human capital in engineering, technological and natural science (STEM) disciplines that facilitate the overcoming of unemployment and encouraging economic growth of the country.
