IMF Fiscal Affairs Head: Georgia is making a very good progress on IMF-Supported Program

Georgia is making a very good progress on the IMF-supported program, - International Monetary Fund Fiscal Affairs Department Chief Vitor Gaspar said at a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Ivane Matchavariani.

During the talks held within the framework of the annual meetings of the International
Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, the parties discussed issues related to tax
administration, state investment, fiscal risk management and technical assistance to the
Ministry of Finance.

As the head of the International Monetary Fund Fiscal Affairs Department noted, Georgia is consistently implementing the measures envisaged by the medium-term strategy of the tax policy.

“Georgia is making quite good progress in the program supported by the Fund. The deficit has been reduced, while spending priorities in infrastructure and social sectors have improved. Georgia is a country that, together with the International Monetary Fund, is most involved in developing the opportunities. In the future, we will work even more on public finance risk management, which also includes improving the accounting and reporting process. After all, tax administration reform remains a top priority for us," said Vitor Gaspar.

As noted at the meeting, the International Monetary Fund will continue to support Georgia in the process of fiscal reform.
